Coming soon to a table near you

Ok so the official announcement was a few days ago but this is something I would like for folks to look into and maybe think about getting in on.

Monty Cook Games has announced that they will be starting up a Kick Starter in May for a game that will be called ‘No Thank You, Evil!’

Now then what they have said so far interests me greatly. They are going to take their newest game engine (currently appearing in Numenera and Strange) and make it more modular so that it can be used by smalls as young as five. With the modular breakdown of the rules you can add things to make it more challenging and more complex as the smalls get older. They are currently planning a box set with easy to read tokens and big pictures and really it sounds like a good idea to me. Given my previous post on smalls and games I think you can see why.

The game engine is fairly easy to work with as it is, and making a small friendly version is a really cool idea. The way they describe it they are not planning on doing the classic ‘dumbing down’ of the rules, but simply removing some of the more detailed elements of the rules. I don’t know how many other people can tell the difference but it really is real. I think there may well be a market here that others should tap. I know that when it comes to war games things like Fuzzy Heroes (a war game for plush toys) has been getting smalls ready for Battle Tech for years.

Currently I plan on getting in on the Kick Starter to support the effort. I hope that others do too.

Coming soon, the first review on the blog… yeah… that will be interesting 😉

Now gimme the dice, I gotta see if my plush Cthulhu can take down Gloomy Bear.

I have no good examples (because I don’t think there are any), but I hear that Catan Junior works this way. Same game mechanics, less detail. Can you speak to that?

Sorry but I cannot comment to it. The only times I have ever played Catan is with you and the S End crew.
